But… what actually is hypnobirthing?

For the cynics out there I just want to say that I am very into research and I don’t really believe anything unless it’s backed up by some pretty rigid evidence! Hypnobirthing is based on the science of the brain and it is recommended by the NHS and The Royal College of Midwives. My Comprehensive Hypnobirthing courses are designed as full birth preparation courses, but they can also complement more traditional antenatal classes wonderfully.

The “hypno” bit –

I’m not talking about hypnosis in the way you might have seen it on TV in the 90s and 00s (anyone else remember Paul McKenna and Derren Brown or am I showing my age?!). You won’t be running around clucking like a chicken or sharing your deepest secrets with a room full of people. In fact, you probably experience hypnosis every single day of your life. Have you ever driven a familiar route on autopilot and not remembered fully how you got there? Ever been so lost in a book that you lose all track of time? Been totally lost in the moment during sex…? Yep, these are all forms of hypnosis!

In short, it’s when the noisy “thinking” part of our brain switches off and allows our subconscious to take over for a bit, which incidentally is the perfect condition to birth your beautiful baby. Hypnobirthing will teach you the techniques to enable you to quickly and easily reach this state during labour.

The “birthing” bit –

We will also discuss what your body is doing at the different stages of labour, how the whole process is powered by hormones and what we can do to allow those hormones to work at their very best. We’ll talk about breathing techniques, positions for labour and how your birth partner can help. We’ll discuss the importance of the birth environment, making a birth plan and a whole lot more!

My aim is to arm you with all the skills and information you need to feel calm, prepared and excited about the birth of your baby.
